Mississippi and ColoradoMens magazine has been doing a survey of the most fit and the fattest cities for the last eleven years. Colorado is ranked the fittest state for two years in a row and Mississippi is ranked dead last for two years in a row. What are the differences between these two states? ColoradoColorado has a nice temperate climate for much of the year. There are many outdoor trails and places to hike to. People like to get out and exercise. There is also a close relationship between the city, private business, and the universities. They work together, as a whole, to make the city healthy to live in. For example, the city works to keep food portions healthy and the university makes recommendations as to food plans that would be healthy. MississippiMississippi is one of the fattest states. People say that it is the southern fried food that makes them fat. However, upon taking a closer look, they don't really eat that much more fried food than anyone else. The real factor is that there are not enough sidewalks or trails that are appealing to walk on. Many of the streets are so narrow that it is uncomfortable for pedestrians to walk. There is very little public transportation and so people drive everywhere that they go. People also complain of the heat and humidity. The bottom line is that people in Mississippi don't get enough exercise. The state is very poor and this also contributes to their obesity. It may also be a reason that the infrastructure is not very conducive to exercise. Bottom LineTo be successful at being fit, there needs to be a place for you to work out, walk, or enjoy the outdoors. You need to develop a routine that requires you to get exercise. You should not simply drive everywhere and eat fried chicken because that isn't going to work. You may decide to move to Colorado after all.
