Second Law of ThermodynamicsThe second law of thermodynamics states that entropy of an isolated system will tend to increase over time. Entropy is a word that tends to mean disorganization or some type of chaos towards a lower state of being. The theory also points out that it takes energy or work to convert energy to a different type. Obesity and the Second Law of ThermodynamicsAs we age, our bodies break down. We may not be in an isolated system, but it is clear that our bodies age and that older people are not as vibrant as younger people. This means that we should take into consideration that as we age it may become more difficult to perform work and to burn calories. Body enropy may be one of the reasons why obesity tends to occur much more rapidly in middle aged people than younger people. Work and OrganizationOur weight loss plans will tend to be good in the short run and lose strength in the long run. Our rigid or tightly organized plans will often see failure. This is a fact of entropy that things tend to get disorganized. We need to put forth work to keep matter in the order in which it should be naturally. There is no need for discouragement as plans weaken or even fail. The goal is to be on a path of continued organization. If we continually organize and work with out plans, we will find success over the long term. Long Term Weight LossHigh expectations lead us to move towards a rapid weight loss plan. When we can see immediate results, we think that we are doing something right. It makes us feel good. The temptation is to focus on short range plans that will reward you for today. Research shows that most people that get rapid weight loss results gain it all back. What really needs to occur is that we need to make changes that we can handle for our lifetime. We don't need to lose tons of weight quickly. We need to simply shift the balance from giving our bodies an oversupply of energy to a body that is in equilibrium with good health (health body weight). The Second Law of Thermodynamics shows that we tend to get disorganized and move to a lower state over time. That means that we simply should be aware of our surroundings and keep trying to organize. A diligent effort will reward individuals with good health and lean bodies.
