Fat Family in Front of Fast Food Background

Soda Pop – Liquid Candy

Soda consumption is considered to be one of the most deadly habits. If you still drink soda, here is an awesome tip. Stop!!! It's perhaps the worst thing you can do if you are trying to lose weight. Nutritionists and doctors have put soda on the top of their list as something to avoid like the plague.

Don't make the mistake of thinking diet soda will do the trick. Diet soda has the same ill effects and is proven to cause obesity, heart disease, and everything else.

Soda is the #1 source of calories in the western diet. Drinking soda every day is simply one of the best predictors of obesity. What if I told you I had a pill that would increase your appetite, make you sick, and contribute nothing to your health? Would you take it? How about a soda. Drink up.

Reasons to Stop Drinking Soda

Seriously, here are some real facts to help get you motivated.

1- Scientists and nutritionists refer to soda as liquid candy. This negative labeling, by scientists, shows that the scientific community is taking a stand against soda pop.

2- The obesity epidemic is linearly in line, historically, with the soda consumption explosion of the twentieth century.

3- Soda doesn't make you feel full and that makes you consume more calories.

4- Soda leeches calcium from your bones. The calcium is used as a buffer to counteract the acidic nature of soda. This is alarming because most people don't get enough calcium before they drink soda.

5- Oxygen levels are depleted by 25% from drinking soda. Right after you drink a 12 ounce soda, or more. Your oxygen levels are depleted for up to three hours.

6- Soda makes your body acidic. The acidic body is much more prone to degenerative disease development.

7- There is strong scientific link between soda consumption and obesity(Harvard Nurse Study, Growing Up Today Study)

8- Soda damages the liver (The Independent, Britain, May 27, 2007)

9- Soda dissolves tooth enamel (American Dental Association)

10- Kidney Stones and Kidney disease are increased twofold due to the high phosphoric acid content of soda (Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, August 1992).

11- Boys are drinking 36 ounces a day and women are drinking 24 ounces a day (Center For Science in the Public Interest). That's over 400 calories for boys and over 300 calories for girls (per day). The data on this changes constantly (upward).

12- CSPI has petitioned the FDA to put warnings on soda labels.

13- 10-25% of Western Diet calories are from sugary drinks.

14- Soda creates a larger appetite. You will actually eat more food just because you had a drink.

15- Heart Disease is increased. Even one soda per day increases your risk of developing metabolic syndrome by about 50%," says Ramachandran Vasan, MD, professor of medicine at Boston University. Metabolic Syndrome is a precursor for heart disease.

16- Diabetes development chances are increased by 83% (Harvard Nurses Study)

17- CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest) has recommended that caffeinated drinks should bear a notice that reads “This drink contains x grams of caffeine, which is a mildly addictive stimulant drug. Not appropriate for children.”

18- About 50% of people that drink soda will develop gastrointestinal disorders. The lining of the stomach and duodenum can become severely irritated.

19- Soda is believed to contribute to hypertension. Sodium has long been known to cause hypertension and caffeine is well known as a heart stimulant.

20- If you drink two or more sugary drinks per day, you have an 85% higher chance of getting gout.

21- Strong consumption of soda is a strong predictor of heartburn or acid reflux disease.

22- According to Dr. Mercola, soda will cause potassium depletion which can cause Hypokalaemia. In other words, you can develop constipation, muscle weakness, and in some cases paralysis.

23- Roland Griffiths, at Johns Hopkins Medical, found that only 8% of regular soda drinkers can tell the difference between a regular caffeine drink and a non caffeine drink.

24- Diet drinks have a lot more caffeine than their sugary counterparts.

25- The soda industry claims caffeine is added for the taste. Even though caffeine is bitter, they claim that it brings out other flavors.

26- Diet soda has all the same problems as regular sugary soda. There is evidence of increased weight gain and all the rest of the problems on this list.

27- Diet soda primes your tastebuds for more sugary foods and will lead to overconsumption of food calories.

28- The high amount of sugar in soda causes stress on the endocrine system and that is one of the reasons why soda is linked to diabetes.

29- Diet drinks rot your teeth. The acid is the worst part of the drink.

30- Cocaine leaves are still used to flavor Coke. The company concedes to using a decocainized flavor essence in the coca leaves. Nobody knows what that means because the recipe is a closely guarded secret.

31- Soda drinkers tend to eat more fast food and we all know what that means.

Doctor Quotes

According to Doctor David Ludwig, Harvard obesity researcher, children that drink a daily soda pop have a 60% higher chance of developing obesity.

And,according to Doctor Caroline M. Apovian, director of the Nutrition and Weight Management Center at Boston Medical Center. "If you want to stop the epidemic of childhood obesity, curbing soda consumption is the place to start. Health messages on labels would certainly help parents and teens be aware of the risks." She then goes on to say, “...reducing sugar sweetened beverage consumption may be the best single opportunity to curb the obesity epidemic.”
